Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible

SEEN is operated by the operator named in our Impressum, Germany. This is the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For anything about your data, write to the contact address listed in our Impressum.

2. What we collect

  • Account data: your email address and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider), plus when you signed up.
  • Profile data:the nickname and avatar you choose, and the topics you're interested in. Your nickname and avatar are visible to other signed-in users. We never ask for your real name or a photo.
  • Content and activity: Cases you open, comments, verdict votes, likes, saved Cases, hidden Cases, blocked users, reports you file, and the notifications generated for you.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and request logs, processed by our hosting and authentication providers to deliver the service and keep it secure.

Your email address is only used to sign you in, confirm your account, reset your password and contact you about your account. It is never shown to other users.

3. Why we use it (legal bases)

  • To provide SEEN to you — creating your account, showing your Cases and verdicts (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, performance of a contract).
  • To keep the community safe — handling reports, preventing abuse and spam, and securing the service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest).
  • To meet legal obligations, for example responding to lawful requests (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

4. Cookies and tracking

We use only strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not currently run third-party analytics or tracking tools. If that changes, we will update this page and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

5. Who processes your data for us

  • Supabase — database and authentication. Our project is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany).
  • Vercel Inc. — website hosting and delivery. Vercel may process data in the United States; transfers rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
  • Our transactional email provider — used only to send confirmation and password-reset emails.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account in Settings, your account, profile, Cases, comments, votes and other activity are deleted. Copies in routine backups are removed on the backup provider's normal rotation schedule.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • correct inaccurate data (you can edit your nickname, avatar and interests in Settings);
  • have your data erased (Settings → Delete account, or write to us);
  • restrict or object to certain processing, and data portability;
  • complain to a data protection authority — for example in your country of residence, or in Berlin, Germany.

To exercise a right, email the contact address listed in our Impressum. We aim to reply within one month.

8. Age

SEEN is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

9. Changes

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and its date. For material changes we will also tell signed-in users.
